Segregation

Why Segregate?

Waste segregation is the separating and sorting of waste to facilitate recycling. Effective segregation of wastes means that less waste goes to landfills which makes it cheaper and better for people and the environment. We need to segregate waste-

How to Segregate?

If you are able/willing for home composting then you need to keep a bin and a composter in your house/flat for the regular wastes. All the organic wastes will go to the composter and the other inorganic waste (polythene, plastic, paper, wood, etc.) will go to the bin.

If you cannot compost your waste a home then you need to keep two bins- one is for organic waste and the other is for inorganic waste.

The proper way to segregate your everyday household wastes is to keep four different colored bins- green, blue, yellow and red at the downstairs of your building for different kinds of wastes.

Green Bin

All the organic wastes will go to the green bin

Blue Bin

All the plastic and recyclable wastes will go to the blue bin

Yellow Bin

All kind of electronic wastes will go to the yellow bin

Red Bin

All the medical, chemical and hazardous wastes will go to the red bin

If you can not keep four different bins in your building, then keep at least three bins, that are- green (for organic wastes), blue (for inorganic recyclable waste) and red (for medical and hazardous wastes). To maintain the waste segregation regularly, please create awareness to your family members and your helping hands and train them about the segregation process.
