Community Consultation

To introduce and establish the idea of zero-waste community, ESDO conducts community consultation to build a zero-waste community model. Here we present the action plan, seek participation in zero waste practices and establish a protocol for communication by conducting several meetings with the participants by which they can spread the knowledge to others and practice a waste-free lifestyle on their own. In this continuity, ESDO organized three community consultation, one in Dhaka and the other two in Rangpur.

Community Consultation in Dhaka

Environment and Social Development Organization-ESDO organized a community consultation on ‘Sustainable Waste Management’ at Lalmatia Housing Society School and College on 6 February 2021. This session aimed to share the concept of a waste-free lifestyle with the community people of Lalmatia and gather their opinions on this issue. This program also focused on sharing the idea of organic farming through home composting and utilizing kitchen waste to produce organic fertilizer.

This program was enlightened by Sayed Hasan Nur Islam Ruston, honorable councilor of 32 no. Ward, DNCC, Dhaka. He appreciated the initiative taken by ESDO and said that City Corporation will work forward in collaboration with ESDO in this project.

This consultation was also attended by Akmal Hossain, Principal, Lalmatia Housing Society School and College; Hasina Tasnim Moutusi, Assistant Chief Waste Management Officer (Planning), Dhaka North City Corporation; Dr. Shahriar Hossian, Secretary-General of ESDO, and Siddika Sultana, Executive Director of ESDO.

There was an open discussion session where the community people of Lalmatia Block B and C have placed their opinions and questions on this topic. Dr. Shahriar has answered all their questions and clarified their doubts. After a successful consultation, Siddika Sultana, Executive Director of ESDO has closed the session.

 

Community Consultation in Lalmatia

Community Consultation in Rangpur

Following the consultation of Dhaka, ESDO organized two community consultations in two locations of Rangpur- 1) 25 No. Ward, Rangpur City Corporation and 2) Betgari Union, Gangachara Upazilla.

The first one was held on 13th February 2021 at RCCI School and College, Shalban, Rangpur and the other one was held on 14th February 2021  February at Betgari High school. These consultations aimed to educate and encourage community people to practice waste management for sustainable living. 

To support this initiative of ESDO;Upazila chairman of Betgari Union, Senior Journalists, academicians and members of civil society were present at those events.
