Collection
In an urban area, waste collectors collect waste from each locality on daily basis. Sometimes they come twice to an area to collect waste. For proper waste management, besides segregating the household wastes, it also needs to segregate wastes in the waste collection vans.
There need to create separate chambers for different kinds of wastes. The most effective way to separate the waste is to collect the waste in three different chambers- the biggest one is for the organic waste, inorganic recyclable wastes will be collected in the second chamber and the third chamber will be occupied by the medical and hazardous wastes.
As the kitchen/organic wastes are produced the most, it should be collected daily. The recyclable inorganic waste such as plastic, paper, wooden waste, e-waste, metal waste etc. can be collected 2 to 3 times a week and since the medical and hazardous waste generation do not happen regularly, these can be collected once a week.
To make this change, the first and most important act is to train the waste collectors. ESDO is taking this responsibility t train them along with the city corporation.
